Popup Menu
01.08.2025 at 17:13:46

A brief tutorial on the first iteration of the popup menu.  Please make suggestions.  The download includes illustrations.

The new pop up unit menu is a big time saver and is especially useful in situations where
things are hot and heavy, or when you have a lot of units in contact. It is activated by
right clicking on a unit counter on the 3D map.
The options are Move, Stop, Clear all Waypoints, Follow, Formation, Facing, Hold All
Fire, Improve Position, Camouflage, Settings and Exit. We will examine and explain
each one. Remember, this is the first iteration. Future plans include an artillery tab and a
waypoint tab. Please make suggestions.
The move option allows immediate movement and planned movement. Immediate
movement is done by selecting Forward and the distance. Reverse movement is done by
selecting Reverse and the distance.
Additionally, preplanned movements can be selected by clicking on the time desired for
movement and then the forward movement desired. Remember, all of the movements are
directly forward. This feature is not a substitute for a planned route of waypoints! Note:
Do we need to change the time to a 24 hour clock? Do we want a settable clock?
The Follow Last Waypoints command commands the unit to follow the movements of
the last unit that had waypoints set and the currently selected unit’s current speed. The
Follow Last Waypoints at Speed commands the unit to follow the movements of the last
unit that had waypoints set and at the previous selected units’ speed
The Formation Movement to Last Waypoints command set formation movement:
1. Position your units on a start line. The unit should be positioned in relation to each
other as you want to move them in formation. For example, for a "Vee" formation,
simply position your units in a Vee, perhaps with the HQ section in the center of the Vee.
2. Issue waypoints to an "anchor" unit. This is the unit the other units in the formation
will position themselves in relation to during waypoint movements. The "anchor" unit is
simply the first unit in the formation you issue waypoints to--it can be any of the
formation units but possibly the HQ unit is best. 3. Open the Unit Information window
for each other unit in the formation consecutively and hit the "Follow in Formation"
button. Probably you want to use the same speed button--unless you want one of the
units to move faster or slower than the others.
4. The units will now move to positions at each waypoint in relation to the anchor
position, and change orientations accordingly. For example, you can do a left wheel, a
right wheel, or other movement. However--the units will not alter their speed getting to
the next waypoint so some may fall behind or jump ahead if they are on the inside
corners. They will all stop in the correct position when they finally arrive at the last
waypoint though.
The Facing Command changes the facing of the unit the indicated number of degrees.
The hold all fire command selects the Hold All Fire box and stops the unit from firing.
The Improve position command starts the unit improving its position.
The Camouflage command starts the unit camouflaging its position.
The setting selection allows you to choose the transparency and backcolor of the popup
menu.
The popup menu is a shortcut to common commands. It is not a replacement for the left
click unit box.
This is the first iteration of the popup menu. Please make suggestions as to how we can
improve it.
