Missing Unit Information on Counters...
« on: October 08, 2009, 12:55:09 AM »
Hi,Everybody...

Upon loading a couple of smallish Bulge scenarios, I can't seem to generate counters, friendly or enemy, which bear the unit information, such as strength, fuel, ammo, speed, etc.

I have adjusted the map settings to 5k resolution (suggested relating another matter by the Dev. Team) and didn't have a problem w/ a small scenario last week.

Also, in the 3D map controls (F12), I can't seem to make certain options (like "show enemy units") set to default, though I have clicked that option, then the apply button.

Anyway, the unit information is a hold-up now.

Thanks so much for any help,

Casp

There are options to turn off the unit text displays on the 3D Map Settings Options window.  By any chance do you have these turned off?

Show enemy units is one option you cannot set to default.  This is because the client waits for the first update from the server to determine if "fog-of-war" is being enforced for the game in play.  If not, then you will be able to set the option to display all enemy units on the map.  Hope this helps.

D.T....

I have followed your suggestions and still cannot display the unit information.  (This problem was intermittent but now is stubborn.)  I did have the unit information checkboxes indicated and followed an earlier suggestion from your team to adjust the anti-aliasing properties of my video card.  (The counter edges are now smooth.)

Everything else in the game runs smoothly: the maps scroll nicely and the frame rates are comfortable.  The scenarios load and the game doesn't hitch at any point.  I have tried alternating launching the server or the client first, playing w/ the checkboxes for unit information (indicating and non-indicating), toggling the show all units option, and zooming the map in and out in the X, Y, and Z axis.  Nothing seems to work, thus far.

This is very squirrelly--just can't figure it out.

I thank you for your last suggestion,

Casp

*Solved*

It appears that some weird property of my mouse was the sticking point.  By happenstance, I wheeled the mouse, and also pressed the mouse wheel, and, presto, the unit information appeared.

I really don't care why this worked, but, who knows, maybe it will help someone else.

Thanks for your reading the post,

*Correction: Not Solved (as I thought); but solved now (I hope)*

This is simply for anyone who, by chance, may have been having unit counter information envy.  I could not get the unit counter information, in any iteration, to display and believed a mouse jigger did the trick.  It did not.

What seems to have worked, at least twice now, was, once the client and server are launched and the 3D map is accessed, I must assume a map position directly beneath the camera, the height of which doesn't seem to matter.  Somehow, from this angle the information suddenly appears.  There it is.

It is way too early in the morning to be obsessing over this but I got on a roll.

Regards.

*Revised Solution*

Okay, I know that I should just shut up but...

I feel as though I should post any information that could help someone (such as myself) get over a seeming bump in the game.  The lost counter information--in my case--does NOT reappear due to mouse moves or camera angles (though it did do that, so I thought).

The game loads beautifully on my system but, initially, counter information is lost and cannot be found UNTIL I center and focus on a unit VIA the 2D map by clicking on that unit.  Some seconds later the unit information appears on every unit counter on the 3D battlefield.

This technique may make more sense to the developers and, perhaps, there is some explanation for it.  Anyway, I think this is what is happening.

Thanks to any who read,

C.

Can you check your "Unit texts visible at range km" setting on the 3D map options window?  This setting is meant to prevent the display of unit texts on far away counters that you might not be able to read anyway.  However, if perhaps you have this setting set very low, the unit texts will not be visible until you get very close to the unit, and then on the next game update (from the server), the texts will be refreshed and those within the setting range of the camera will be displayed...

D. Administrator...

Following your suggestion, I checked the text and unit visibility ranges, and they are set to the defaults, 5.0 km and 50 km. respectively.

Somehow, my clicking on the 2D map to focus and center the 3D map initiates the text display.  This is probably something peculiar to my video card.

I'm more than happy to keep doing this,
